What does it take to get a website?

    Working on a website

We try to make the process as painless for you as possible, right from the start. After all, you’re working with us because you want us to take that pain off your hands.

When you contact us, the first thing we do is set up an initial consultation. We ask you questions to get to know what exactly your business does, the “feel” you want your site to have, and what sorts of things you would want on your site. Do you want google maps to tell your customers where you’re located? Do you have frequently asked questions you’d like to include? Need to integrate online booking? We’ll make sure that we understand what you want from your site so we can design it.

After the consultation we send a list of things we need from you.

    • Photos are always crucial. These are what will really capture your customer, so it’s worth investing in quality, high resolution photography and some professional headshots. No amount of design can fix a blurry photo.
    • Domain info: If you don’t have a domain yet, you’ll need to buy one. This is your url, for us it’s harborviewwebdesign.com. You can buy these through Ionos, bluehost, namecheap, or any other domain provider. We’ll need the login credentials for this to get your site live.
    • Testimonials: Everyone wants to know how well you’re serving your current customers! We want to know who they are and what you’ve done for them. If you can include a headshot of the reviewer, or a picture of the work you did for them, so much the better!

Once we have all your information, we get started on design! Sara will start making a prototype on figma that includes a mock up of what the pages will look like on desktop and mobile. Once she’s happy with it, we send it off to you. You can comment directly on the prototype or email us with any changes you want made to it. Once you’re happy with it, Austin gets started on turning it into a reality.

When it’s ready, we’ll let you know and you can find your site behind a password protected “Under Construction” screen. You can look over it, test it out, and make sure it’s everything you imagined. When you’ve decided everything looks perfect, we remove the under construction screen and your site is live! Throw a party!

The best part about working with us, is that launching your site isn’t the end. Did you remember something you wanted to include on the site? No problem, we’re ready for that kind of update and we’ll get it up as soon as we can. Did you decide you want to test out different keywords? Great, let’s do some experimenting. We’re here to keep your site relevant and up to date, just let us know how we can help!

Why Every Small Business Needs a Website (Even If You’re Not Looking for More Customers!)

When most people think about websites, they picture a bustling online storefront or a flashy ad campaign. But here’s the truth: even if you’re not actively looking for more customers or clients, your small business still needs a website. It’s not just about getting new leads, it’s about building trust, strengthening your brand, and preparing for the future.

Here are a few key reasons why having a website is essential for any small business:

    1. Establish Credibility and Trust

Even if you already have a steady stream of business, people will still look you up online. A professional website reassures potential customers, clients, or partners that your business is legitimate, established, and trustworthy.

    2. Reinforce Your Brand and Tell Your Story

Your website is the one place where you have complete control over your story. You can share your values, your history, your mission, and the personality that makes your business unique. Whether you’ve been around for five years or fifty, your website helps you define your identity.

    3. Provide Key Information Easily

People want information quickly and easily. Even if you’re not actively marketing, a website ensures that important details, like your hours, services, location, or how to get in touch, are always available. You’ll save time and avoid answering the same questions over and over.

    4. Showcase Your Work or Products

Think of your website as a living portfolio. Even if you’re fully booked or not accepting new clients, showcasing your work helps build pride in your craft, inspire future opportunities, and encourage word-of-mouth referrals. Your website can quietly work in the background, showing people what you do best.

    5. Protect and Control Your Online Presence

If you don’t have a website, search engines (or even other businesses) might define your online image for you – sometimes inaccurately. A simple website ensures you have control over how your business is presented and protects your brand reputation.

    6. Future-Proof Your Business

Your needs might change. Having a website means you’re ready for whatever comes next, whether that’s growing, pivoting, or offering new services. Think of your website as an investment in your business’s future.

    The bottom line?
A website isn’t just a marketing tool, it’s an essential part of running a professional, resilient business today. Even if you don’t need new customers right now, having a strong online presence ensures that you’re building credibility, supporting your community, and preparing for whatever opportunities come next.
